AQUEDUCS
The aqueducts are remarkable infrastructures that supplied the ancient city with water from the heights of Fourvière.
The Roman aqueducts of Lyon and the surrounding region are an astonishing heritage, all too often forgotten by Lyonnais and visitors alike. Built in the 1st century A.D., four of them were used to supply the ancient city with water from the heights of Fourvière. The Yzeron aqueduct, 27 km long, was probably the first of Lyon's aqueducts. Some interesting remains of the Brévenne and Gier aqueducts remain, with 136 structures still visible. In Chaponost and Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, for example, there are a number of signposted walks where you can discover this ancient heritage.
