Restaurant with terrace, close to the Valmy metro station, which offers a menu that changes according to the fresh products of the day's market.

Feeling good in Vaise at Bistrot Berthet. Next to the Valmy metro station, on a terrace sheltered from traffic and bad weather, a gourmet invitation to settle down in an urban refuge with a country feel. A warm and friendly atmosphere, where you can savour a cuisine that revisits the classics in contemporary dishes with strong flavours. The short menu includes a poultry liver cake, mashed potatoes and mushrooms, finishing with a delicious chocolate moelleux with pear/ginger coulis. The lunchtime menu, based on daily market produce, offers very good value for money. In the evening, dishes in the same spirit. An excellent list of local wines.

I had a 'filet mignon', which was good despite the two fillets being unevenly cooked, with one of them slightly overcooked and a little too dry. The menu saying nothing differently, I expected the meat to be beef, but it was pork instead. I found that rather disappointing, and it put me a little off.

The vegetables in the dish were just too few, albeit perfectly cooked. Considered that was the most expensive course of the restaurant and it was pork meat, I would've added some more to justify the price. Unfortunately, one of the cherry tomatoes was beyond being too ripe and its taste was rather unpleasant, while another still had the stem on. Overall, it was a pleasant main course, and the wine suggested was nicely paired with the dish.

The dessert, an 'ananas confit' (candied pineapple) was just delicious, very well though and put together. The pineapple bits were spot-on candied, retaining the freshness of the fruit while giving my sweet tooth great satisfaction without exceeding. The tropical ice-cream scoop in the middle had a nice taste while the crumble and the vanilla-based sauce balanced flavours and texture very well. Only negative note, the meringue-like bits were a little too hard and some tasted not exactly fresh-made.

Overall, a nice place to have a taste of what French cuisine is about and good value for money.
