Aqueduct which supplied Lugdunum, and collected the waters of the Pilat massif from Yzieux in the Loire.
Built under Emperor Claudius around 40 A.D., it is the longest - 85 km - of the 4 aqueducts that supplied Lyon. It drew water from the Pilat massif at Yzieux in the Loire, crossing the Mornant plateau to reach Lyon at Saint-Irénée. Beautiful remains can be seen at several sites in Mornant, notably on the RD63 between Mornant and Saint-Sorlin, with 3 arches, a cross-section of the underground canal near boulevard du Général de Gaulle and a manhole used to maintain the pipes.
