CENTER CULTUREL ANTOINE TANGAMEN DIT "ZWAZO
The Habitation Gradis is a site steeped in history, and is now home to the Centre Culturel Antoine Tangamen. This exceptional site, witness to the grandeur and upheavals of Martinique's sugar history, has been transformed into a living space dedicated to art, culture and collective memory.
It pays tribute to Antoine Tangamen, an emblematic figure of the Indo-Martinican community. This former farm worker, then commander on the habitation, was also a great vatialou, a Tamil priest. He was the last person on the island to speak the Tamil language, playing a central role in the transmission of Indo-Martinican traditions and rituals.
Today, the cultural center offers a rich program combining heritage and innovation. Key events include the Festival des Soupes de Martinique, which showcases local flavors, and the Midi Gastronomique Indo-Martiniquais, a tribute to the Indian contribution to Martinican cuisine. The center also organizes shows, exhibitions, creative workshops for young people and theme days such as the Creole language celebration and Dipavali.
Its verdant gardens, historic relics and landscaped areas provide an ideal setting for cultural encounters and moments of sharing. A place of memory and artistic experimentation, the Centre Tangamen invites you to discover the vibrant soul of Martinique's North Atlantic region. A must-see for young and old alike!
