CATEDRAL DE LA PURÍSIMA CONCEPCIÓN
Building founded in the 16th century and dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, with Baroque and Neoclassical elements
Founded in the 16th century by Francisco de Montejo and dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, the original building underwent numerous additions and modifications over the following centuries, featuring both Baroque and neoclassical elements. The tower on the right features a clock added in the 19th century. The overall effect is rather sober, but the evening illumination is a great success. Adjacent, a small museum of sacred art, and on the Zócalo, a bandstand where music is often played.
