BARRIO EL GUANAL
The oldest part of the city to appreciate the few historical buildings in Ciudad del Carmen
This is the city's oldest district, where the first houses with guano palm roofs were built in 1722. As you stroll through its streets, you'll appreciate a number of historic buildings, such as the old customs house, as well as several notable religious temples, including the Templo de Jesús Nazareno and the Iglesia del Guanal. For an overview of the district, take Calle 22, a former shopping street, which crosses Parque Antón de Alaminos and leads to Parque Zaragoza, where the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen stands nearby.
