Opened in 1915, this cantina is one of the oldest in Merida. It is a very lively place and often crowded with local fauna at the end of the day and beginning of the evening. One comes here to drink ice-cold beer (artisanal or not), mezcal and other exotic fruit cocktails, to be accompanied by typical botanas like the Huevo Cardenal (a fried egg on a bed of rice-sauce). El Cardenal is also a place for cultural exchange and hosts live music, exhibitions, book presentations, etc. Program to follow.
