PELOTA JUEGO
Rectangular space of 34 meters long and 10 meters wide, framed by two massive wall blocks preceded by embankments.
Unlike the traditional pelota courts that can be found at other archaeological sites, the one at Uxmal is not surrounded by temples, which usually play such an important role in the life of the city. Here, two massive wall blocks, preceded by sloping embankments, frame a rectangular space 34 metres long and 10 metres wide. Note the huge carved stone rings bearing hieroglyphic inscriptions, into which the players of the two opposing teams had to place the ball.
