KINICH KAKMÓ PYRAMID
The largest Mayan pyramid in Izamal, one of the largest in Mesoamerica by the size of its base
This is the largest Mayan pyramid in Izamal, and the only one really worth seeing. It's also one of the largest in Mesoamerica, with a base measuring 200 by 180 metres. This5th-century AD structure is dedicated to the solar god Kinich Kakmó, who is believed to have descended daily in the form of a fiery guacamaya to collect the offerings left for him. You can climb to the very top of the upper temple, but beware of the badly damaged steps. Nice view of the surrounding area from the top.
