PARQUE PRINCIPAL FRANCISCO CANTÓN ROSADO
Fountain that pays tribute to the Meztiza, the Yucatecan woman, a mixture of Spanish and Mayan cultures in Valladolid
Inaugurated in 1900, Valladolid's main square is named after the then governor of Yucatán, General Cantón Rosado. The fountain in the centre dates from 1924 and pays homage to the Mestiza, the Yucatan woman, a mixture of Spanish and Mayan cultures. Opposite the square, the church of San Gervasio was built at the beginning of the colonization and rebuilt in the 18th century. At the end of the afternoon, the singing of hundreds of birds makes the place surreal.
