The movement of the sun has been an exceptional spectacle in Chichén Itzá and Dzibilchaltún since the time of the Mayan civilization.
The Mayan archaeological sites were built according to the movements of the sun. The spring equinox marks the moment when the sun crosses the celestial equator from south to north. In Chichén Itzá, around March 21, tens of thousands of people come to witness the ascent and descent of the staircase of the pyramid of El Castillo by the "snake of light and shadow". Less known and frequented, Dzibilchaltún also offers a unique spectacle: the rising sun appears through the opening that forms the entrance of the Temple of the Seven Dolls.
