EL CENOTE SAGRADO
A cenote that was an important place of offerings where many bones were found in Chichen Itza
At the beginning of the 20th century, the property of Chichén Itzá was bought by the North American, Edward H. Thompson, who, among other things, dredged the sacred cenote by diving into it with his diving suit. His findings, various gold, copper and jade objects were sent to the Peabody Museum. It seems that the Maya destroyed all their cult objects at the passage of a new 52-year period. The cenote was indeed an important place of offerings. We also found many bones there which still question the presence of sacrifices or funeral rites.
