ZONA ARQUEOLÓGICA EL REY
One of the most important archaeological areas of Cancun, consisting of about 40 stone structures.
Dating from the Late Postclassic period (1200-1500 AD), the site of El Rey ("The King") is one of the most important archaeological areas in Cancún. It is composed of about forty stone structures, arranged along an alley, but only about twenty of them are visible today. The largest structure is a pyramid of about 5 meters high, which served as a ceremonial center. El Rey, together with the nearby San Miguelito, was a settlement dedicated to fishing and maritime trade.
