RUTA DE LOS CENOTES
An ideal base for exploring the cenotes that are located inland in Puerto Morelos.
Puerto Morelos is an ideal base for exploring the cenotes that are located inland. The 45 km road from Puerto Morelos to Leona Vicario is known as the "Cenote Route". The cenotes are administered by individuals or Mayan communities. Some of them have been developed as adventure parks, without much interest... We prefer to swim in the cenotes that are free of any ostentatious installation, whether they are open, semi-covered or underground. To reach the sites, the easiest way is to go through an agency or to have your own vehicle. You can also take a colectivo to Leona Vicario, but some cenotes are far from the road, sometimes several kilometers away like those of Kin Ha or La Noria. Sunscreen is forbidden and you will have to rinse yourself before entering these sacred wells. Here is a selection:
Cenote Siete Bocas (km 15.5 / $400). One of the best preserved in the region, with minimal and rustic facilities. There are seven access points along an 8 km trail that can be explored by bicycle. The entrances are interconnected and you can swim from one to the other. Under the water, you can see tunnels where stalactites and stalagmites abound.
Cenote Verde Lucero (km 17 / $200) is an open-air cenote whose water color changes with the hours of the day. Bucolic and peaceful. Tyrolean traverse, bird watching, snorkeling and platforms to dive from the heights.
Reserva del Pájaro Toh (km 19 / $120). A 500 ha biological reserve that houses three cenotes. Conservation measures have allowed the return of a large number of endangered species, such as jaguar, deer, monkeys and tapirs. There is also the largest plantation of red cedar in Quintana Roo. If you arrive early enough in the morning you can see deer, monkeys or tapirs. The place also organizes night walks and meditation sessions. Remember to contact the organization in charge of the reserve before your visit ( [email protected] - +52 998 256 1920).
Cenote La Noria (km 20 / $450). Underground and one of the largest in the area (18 m deep and 47 m in diameter). On site, some picnic tables, mountain bikes and hammocks.
Cenote Kin-Ha (km 20 / $350). Perhaps the most beautiful of all, its great depth (50 meters) is ideal for diving. The sun's rays that seep in create a wonderful light effect. You can practice kayaking, snorkeling and diving.
