TEMPLO DE LOS FRESCOS
Rectangular temple superimposed on a building, with a frieze representing rosettes and anthropomorphic figures.
The Temple of the Frescoes is a rectangular temple superimposed on a building of the same shape but of larger dimensions. The columns of the lower building are surmounted by a frieze representing rosettes and anthropomorphic figures. This is the most interesting building on the site from an iconographic point of view. The interior walls are decorated with murals depicting deities, snakes and flowers, as well as figures of intertwined lines related to the concept of sovereignty among the Maya. The building would have served as an astronomical observatory.
