CASA DEL CHULTÚN
The first building built on a rectangular platform, which served for residential use and owes its name to the chultun
The Casa del Chultún is the first building that we visit right after the entrance. It is built on a rectangular platform with stairs on each side. The whole building was covered by a flat masonry roof supported by beams. It was used for residential purposes and owes its name to the chultún that was excavated inside, in the southeast corner. The chultún, a combination of two Mayan words: "rainwater" and "stone", is an underground cistern built in the shape of a bottle, which was used to store rainwater.
