The church of San Juan Bautista in Marchena is an important historical site. Founded after the Christian conquest of the town, it is linked to the presence of the Order of San Juan in the 13th century. The chapel beneath the tower is the only vestige of this period. The three central naves, tower and triple chevet were built from 1490 onwards, and are covered by a magnificent Mudejar coffered ceiling. Over the centuries, transformations and additions were made, giving the church a blend of Gothic and Mudejar styles. The church's interior boasts an exceptional artistic heritage, with works by Francisco de Zurbarán, Pedro de Mena and other renowned artists. The church was restored in the 1990s. Visits are by appointment only and admission is free.
