BASILICA OF THE CACHORRO (PATROCINIO)
Chapel where the faithful come to pay homage to the Christ of the Expiration whose statue was sculpted by Francisco Antonio Ruiz
It's in this chapel that the faithful come to pay homage to the Christ of Expiration(El Cachorro), Santísimo Cristo de la Expiración de El Cachorro, to be precise. The statue was sculpted by Francisco Antonio Ruiz Gijón in 1682, based on the model of a gypsy dying after a quarrel. Take time to observe all the singularities of this representation, in particular its mouth and throat. The entrance vault of this off-white church is decorated with bricks and azulejos. Christ is carried in procession during Holy Week.
