Museum that exhibits the beautiful clothes of the Macarena and the pasos that carry the two statues during the Holy Week
If you're not in Seville on Holy Thursday, you can still admire the city's most revered sacred image: Santa María de la Esperanza, better known as La Macarena. Carved in the 17th century, crowned in gold and adorned with five diamonds and emerald brooches, it stands behind the main altarpiece. Also present is the Cristo de la Sentencia, who goes out in procession on Good Friday. Soak up the religious fervor of the faithful who come to admire them and kiss the crucifix. The Museo Tesoro de la Macarena (and its store) exhibits the Macarena's magnificent garments and the pasos that carry the two statues during Holy Week.
On your way out, take a look at the remains of the 12th-century Almohad ramparts (to the east of the basilica) and the Andalusian Parliament (large building opposite the basilica), once a hospital.
