MACARENA WALLS
Symbol of the district of Seville, ramparts marked out by seven big square towers and an octagonal tower
The arch and ramparts are the true symbol of this district. The ramparts are punctuated by seven large square towers and one octagonal tower. Despite its supposed link with Roman art, the origin of the walls is Almohad. The walls extend from the San Hermenegildo church, which includes the Cordoba gate, to the Macarena arch. With the exception of this section, they were demolished in the mid-19th century. A four-phase renovation program of the city walls began in February 2021, with completion scheduled for the end of 2024.
