GARDENS OF THE TORRE DON FADRIQUE
The oldest gardens of the city, planted with orange trees, jasmine, olive trees, acanthus and laurel
Enter through an old wooden gate: a path leads to the town's oldest gardens, planted with orange, jasmine, olive, acanthus and laurel trees. In the middle stands the Don Fadriquetower. The space is quite small, but it's a charming place to stroll or read in the shade on a bench. Little known to the general public, these gardens are the only relic of the buildings, vegetable gardens and gardens of the Palacio del Infante Don Fadrique, donated by Sancho IV to the foundation of the Convento Santa Clara. In 1920, the town council decided to dig down to the base of the tower: hence this sunken area surrounded by myrtle trees, where shows are often staged.
