Gardens located on both sides of Avenida de la Buhaira, which constitute an agricultural and recreational area
These gardens are located on either side of the Avenida de la Buhaira (behind the San Sebastián bus station). Since the 12th century, they have been both an agricultural and recreational area. More recently, they have been the subject of archaeological and historical studies with a view to turning them into a public park. At the time, the Almohad caliphs built a palace here as a summer residence: Al-Buhayra (the lagoon). In 1892, the superb neo-Mudejar pavilion of María de Los Angeles was built (and the remains of the Almohad palace demolished). The complex was declared a historic-artistic monument in 1972, and in 1981, the remains of a Muslim necropolis were discovered. Date palms, orange, lemon, olive, Granada sage, acacia and fig trees are planted in these gardens, the essence of Andalusian vegetation.
