GUADALQUIVIR
The only navigable river in Spain, from where Magellan left to undertake his world tour in 1519
It is the only navigable river in Spain. Called the Rio Betis by the Romans, it has played an important role in Seville's history. It was from here that Magellan set off on his circumnavigation of the globe in 1519, as recalled by an armillary sphere, an ancient astronomical instrument, installed on the San Telmo bridge. And since 2022, you can visit a replica of Magellan's ship, the Nao Victoria 500. Without going around the world, this is also where the boats that take you to Sanlúcar de Barrameda depart from.
