PEÑAFLOR PALACE
Typical Ecija stately home, a model of Spanish Baroque architecture and one of the city's jewels
Also known as the "Palace of the Large Balconies", it is one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture and one of the city's jewels. Built between 1700 and 1775, it was the residence of the Peñaflor family, landowners and Spanish grandees until 1958. Of particular note is the curved facade, over 60 meters long, painted in trompe-l'œil to match the street layout. And its superb interior staircase, with eight Tuscan columns and a richly decorated vault. Today, it occasionally hosts events.
