Quarries considered as the Petra of Andalusia, in remote reference to the city of Jordan in Osuna
Located on the heights of Osuna, they are considered to be the "Petra" of Andalusia, in distant reference to the city of Jordan, and lie on the grounds of the ancient Urso, from which the stone needed for construction was extracted even before the Roman occupation. Although the quarries have been in continuous use since the time of the Turdétans, a people close to the Iberians, quarrying intensified during the major construction works undertaken by the fourth Count of Ureña in the 16th century, and ceased definitively in the 1960s. Today, you can see a collection of instruments and tools used to extract and transport the stones, as well as 4,000 m² of gardens.
