It began operating on 21 September 2017 and includes a 16 km line linking the municipalities of Maracena, Albolote, Armilla and Granada. With twenty-three stops on the surface and three underground, as nearly 3 km of the Camino de Ronda-Avenida de América route runs underground in Granada. In this project, which aims to relieve the city's congestion by carrying around 30,000 passengers per day, the Junta de Andalucia has invested €558 million. In Andalusia, it is the third metro after those in Seville and Malaga.
