LA FERIA DEL CORPUS
Go there and contact
Established by the Catholic Monarchs after the "toma" of Granada in 1492, it is the most important festival in the city. Every year, the celebration of this Corpus Christi Corpus Christi festival begins on Saturday at midnight with the "alumbrao", lighting thousands of bulbs in the recinto ferial, located in the Almanjáyar barrio. Throughout the week, there will be theatre and zarzuela performances, concerts, exhibitions and of course bullfights. Not to mention horse-drawn carriage rides, passengers dressed in their most beautiful Andalusian clothes, flamenco concerts and a clever city to celebrate. During this week, two processions take place in the main streets of the city. On Wednesday, it will be Tarasque, a model riding a fierce dragon and on Thursday will be Corpus Cristi day. On this occasion, folk groups, bandas of musicians and models with giant heads march with the religious brotherhoods of the city. If you are tempted to go there, don't be afraid to be excluded. Here, the casetas, small tents that welcome families or corporations to meet with friends or colleagues, are not all private. Half of them being public, you will be able to access them without difficulty and experience this feria as closely as possible. Around this fair, Granada maintains another tradition, that of carocas and quintillas, drawings and caricatures, accompanied by short words, taking a humorous look at the local and national news of the year. An ancient tradition that dates back to the 17th century. During the week before the fair, panels located on the plaza Bib-Rambla welcome the participation of those who wish to participate, then left open to all, some of them appearing in the press. The top twenty will be presented as part of the recinto ferial.
