CARMEN ALJIBE DEL REY
Old villa in the neighborhood with cisterns and a water interpretation center
Located in the heart of Albaicín, between the Ziri wall and the Plaza del Cristo de las Azucenas, this carmen, an old villa in the district, has been renovated and now houses the AguaGranada Foundation, where the water interpretation centre is located. This will be the opportunity to discover a cistern, aljibe, the largest in the city (capacity of 300 cubic meters) and the oldest of the Muslim cisterns. And also to be made aware of the importance of water during the Andalusian period through explanations given on the irrigation mechanisms of agriculture through networks of acequias, irrigation canals, or the supply of cities through networks of cisterns, aljibes. Not to mention the very special relationship maintained by the city of Granada with the Darro river.
