PLAZA DE TOROS - ARENAS
Neo Mudejar style address on 3 floors offering guided tours to discover its history
The third space was the right one. After hosting bullfights at Plaza Bib-Rambla and then two toro plazas - arenas - in the Triunfo district, the current Plaza de Toros in Granada was built in 1928. Designed by architect Angel Casas, it is in the neo-Mudejar style with a concrete structure and exposed brick walls as well as arches designed to blend into the Arabic visual of iconic monuments in Granada such as the Alhambra or the Puerta de Elvira. Named Monumental de Frascuelo since its creation, in homage to the famous Granada bullfighter, it is one of the ten most important arenas in Spain, with a surface area of 9,000 square metres, three floors, an arena diameter of 50 metres and a capacity for 12,500 people. You can access it via guided tours lasting just under an hour that introduce you to the history of this plaza (posters, unpublished photos, bull heads and documentaries) and of course enter the arena and then discover other corners such as the stables, the infirmary, the chapel and the tortillas. The most important bullfights take place there during the feria del corpus in June. These arenas also host concerts or other events (see the program on the website) and in the surrounding area, bars, restaurants and pubs await you to extend the discovery or fiesta.
