LOS ITALIANOS
Ah, good artisanal Italian ice cream! Since 1936, when Paolo de Rocco founded the establishment, this has been the rallying point for all gourmands in the Granadine capital for four generations. A narrow corridor flanked by a very long aluminium counter leads to a small terrace at the far end (calle de Abenabar) where you can order small pots and cones: hazelnut, Málaga - yes, with raisins -, Jerez, turrón, marron glacé..., excellent cassates, the queens of the night, cups, like the marvellous Cuore Amargo, and frozen tarts or horchatas and granizadas at good prices. No color in sight (they hide everything from us!), so order the exclusive recipes blind! In summer 2010, the staff in white shirts had the joy and honor of serving Michelle Obama (and her staff) on a visit! And every summer, if you see anyone around, it's the customers.
