The first monks to settle in Havana in the mid-16th century were Franciscans. Begun around 1580 and completed with the century, the church and convent were destroyed by a violent storm at the end of the 17th century. The complex you can admire today was built between 1719 and 1738. We recommend climbing to the top of the bell tower, even if it's a bit steep, for a splendid panoramic view of old Havana.
