In the 17th century, this neoclassical house became the Casa del Obispo (Bishop's House), where several bishops resided. In the eighteenth century, Bishop Morell de Santa Cruz made it the home from which the popular rebellion against English rule began. In the 19th century, the house housed the Episcopal Archives and, later, the General Intendancy of Finances. Finally, the Numismatic Museum moved there in 1984, with its specialized library and collections of Cuban coins and banknotes from the 16th century.
