It is one of the best Fine Arts museums in the Caribbean. It has the most important collection of Cuban art in the world with more than 4,300 paintings, 12,800 drawings and engravings and 285 sculptures. Among the artists of the colonial period, there are works by Jean-Baptiste Vermay, José Nicolás de la Escalera, Vicente Escobar, Víctor Patricio and Guillermo Collaz. On the contemporary side, there are works by Hugo Consuegra and Guido Llinás, among others.

Un vrai coup de coeur pour moi. Je ne m'attendais pas à ce que ce musée soit si riche. Une vraie découverte des artistes cubains que je ne connaissais pas et que j'ai découvert avec un immense plaisir. Si vous ne faites qu'un musée à la Havane, c'est celui ci, il y'a un bâtiment près de l'ancien palais présidentiel et un autre près du bar el Florida.

Musée situé en face de celui de la Révolution.
Les œuvres sont nombreuses et les artistes variés.
On ne vous distribue pas de plan ou brochure à l'entrée. Des petits panneaux donnent des indications à côté de chaque tableau.
L'époque contemporaine est bien représentée.
