Built in the colonial style and surrounded by century-old trees, Finca Vigia is located on the highest point of San Francisco de Paula (hence its name, which means "lookout"). Unlike Hemingway's house in Key West, Florida, this one can only be visited from the outside thanks to the large windows and open doors, in order to preserve the house from the wear and tear of time. We advise you to take the guided tour, because, not being able to visit the house itself, you will be able to have a more complete view of the writer's life thanks to the explanations of a guide.

The house has not changed much since Hemingway wrote The Old Man and the Sea. Furniture, books, trophies from his African safaris and personal items have remained intact. Note the numbers on the wall in the bathroom: they are Hemingway's weight, which he wrote down, day after day, because he was obsessed with being overweight. You will then walk in the superb 22 hectare park that surrounds the property and will be able to see the famous swimming pool where Ava Gardner would have bathed naked, which would have made Hemingway's wife mad with jealousy. She then surprised her husband by observing her with a telescope from his bedroom! She left, furious, after having locked all the doors of the house and taken away the keys so that Ava Gardner would be obliged to remain naked outside (her clothes were in the house).

Former home of Emingway, visible only by external windows and someone can take us inside photos for 1 CUC. Beautiful house, with many hunting trophies. Beautiful garden with empty swimming pool, boat and a large tower to have a view of Havana and write in calm and standing. Free walk.
