The site of Wamala, located about ten kilometres northwest of the city centre, is a little-known burial site of the Buganda kingdom. It houses the tomb of Kabaka Suuna II, who reigned in the mid-19th century. It is the only one of the most important monuments in the world to have been built in the 18th century, and it is the only one of its kind in the world. This kabaka was the last to be buried without its mandible (where the males of the deceased would reside).
