Otherwise sketchy "cleanish" rooms. New towels and soap were rare.
Had to switch three times to get opening windows to mitigate musty smells. Crungy corners in room we accepted.
Staff was very argumentative about room keys. We needed 15+ over three days. With one of two elevators out that's a lot of time wasted going back to desk. Technology is so old they claimed room card can't work if kept near phone or credit cards (have kept hotel key cards in wallet for years with no issues). So we kept room keys in separate pockets from all else as rudely instructed - no improvement.
Desk said they would have door lock checked. No improvement. When checking out, as leaving, room cleaning staff was nearby and mentioned they'd been having trouble with our room door not opening.
Wi-Fi was just strong enough to say we were connected but never strong enough to move any data. Desk had no solutions.
Dank rooms, pass keys that don't work, useless wifi and ride desk staff.
Yes. I have video proof of everything including the insane conversation I had with their unbelievably unprofessional and confrontational management.
Dirty rooms. Incredibly unprofessional and rude hotel staff. Scheduled construction with ZERO warning to guests that it would disrupt your sleep. It’s New Orleans, someone drilling through concrete above your head after a night in the French Quarter is less than desirable.
Room - old AC, old rooms, old dirty carpets, no bathtub drain stopper, TV did not work, sheets are cheap material, and my coffee maker was missing a piece. Lock was broken and loose. No hand towels. No hand soap.
Cleanliness - same DEAD BUG was on my wall, for 3 days. I actually checked out and then checked back in and ended up in the same room, with the same dead bug smooshed on the wall. No backup TP rolls.
Elevator - Only one works, and it’s terrifying. The other is out of service. Not surprising when you see the conditions.
Front Desk - Disorganized, and always something wrong. I waited in the lobby to check in for 30 mins while the system was down. There were like 4 snacks total in the little hotel store thing and that transaction system was also down.
I called down at 9am asking about how long to expect the heavy construction creating an audible assault on my eardrums, the front desk flipped out and said I’m “the ONLY ONE COMPLAINING” and hung up on me. After heading to the front desk to discuss my options with management - the manager also flipped out on me and told me basically it wasn’t her fault, I better not expect a discount (I didn’t), I should probably find another hotel bc they would be doing the SCHEDULED work ALL WEEK and then they SPITEFULLY KEPT MY INCIDENTAL DEPOSIT with no warning assuming bc I checked out 30 mins late - due to being downstairs TRYING to deal with the unprofessional management staff for nearly half an hour…deciding if I should stay or not.
Just now someone sneezed twice and it sounded like they were inside of my room and then I listened to their entire conversation. The walls are more thin than I thought they were. One of the nights this same room had the alarm blaring for about one hour. I called down to the desk to let them know… the phone rang and rang, but no one ever answered.
Every single time I took a shower, the bathtub completely filled with water and then it slowly drain out over five minutes after the shower was complete.
Management: Visible black mold in the bathroom, other reviews have mentioned this. Black mold needs to be taken care of or you will have a severe issue on your hands with expensive major construction required.
I did not have a balcony, my windows did not open, and I had the view of a dirty alleyway. It would’ve been nice if I’d been offered a nicer room upon check in as I don’t think the hotel was anywhere near capacity.
The icemaker on every floor was broken and they were “working on it”.
I never knew if my trash cans would have liners because sometimes they did and somedays they didn’t.
Two places in the ceiling in the bathroom looked really sketchy, and I felt like someone was either recording me with a camera or someone was about to climb down through the ceiling.
Toilet worried me sometimes, but did consistently flush. It would fill almost to the point of overflow and then slowly sink out.
Couldn’t get my air conditioning to work on day two, managed to jiggle it just right to get it working on day three.
The door to room 313 did not properly shut and it was slightly ajar when I arrived to the hotel. Pushing my hotel door open without using the key was very creepy as a first impression. I made sure that it was closed, Everytime I came and left.
A positive is that my bed was beautifully made every evening when I arrived back to my room.
There is always a large container of ice water in the lobby which I made use of, and was thankful for.
The staff were always polite and kind to me. They allow to store your bags before and after checkout which was very appreciated.
I would not stay here if I ever returned to NOLA.
Popcorn ceiling with yellow stains, dusty countertops, hairdryer that works sometimes…
Not very soundproof. Can hear any noise in the hallways. Also elevator is so creaky and shaky. Pool was very small but looks relatively clean.
Only get a water on check in day and that’s it. Also covers are very thin; pillows are hard/too tall but that may be a personal preference
Awesome location though. Walkable distance to all the fun places ????
I definitely recommend staying here. We will be next time we are in NOLA again.
When we arrived in our room we started having the same issues as the lady downstairs. Our TV also did not work.
The first thing I noticed about the room other than the TV was that there was mold in the shower and the curtains were nasty.
The next day we were unable to connect to the internet. We brought this issue up to the staff multiple times. We were told to try to keep reconnecting even after we had told them that it wasn’t working no matter what we did.
Later on we were told someone from “engineering” would be coming up to fix it. After waiting 90 minutes-no one did.
We went to the front desk later on and reported our issue for a third time and also reported that no one came to our room and we were told and I quote “the hotel is booked at 100% capacity so we won’t be able to connect to the internet”. Ridiculous.
This is a problem especially if you are someone who works remote or like me who goes to school online. Even though I was on vacation I was still planning to set aside time to turn in assignments. I was unable to do so because this amenity that I paid for was not available and no one told us at check in that this was clearly a known issue.
Not to mention they also offer a “fitness center” the fitness center has no working equipment. So don’t plan on training while you stay here-if that is something that is important to you.
There was very noticeable mold in the shower. Grime and mildew all over the ceiling in the bathroom. There was also a hole in the bathroom ceiling that had a light in it. The amount of dust that was in there was disgusting and gnat/flies kept coming out of this hole-whatever it was.
Beware-the thermostat also does not work.
The curtain was cut all the way to the top so we couldn’t close it. Honestly, it was so disgusting you wouldn’t want to touch it anyways. All the dust and grime on those curtains were disgusting. There were stains on the comforter as well. Also, there were brown drip marks on the bathroom door and grime build up by the mirror. There are also no wash cloths-just giant hand towels.
Halfway through our stay our room cards were deactivated. We were made to feel like it was somehow our fault. We were told “not to put the key next to your credit cards or your phone as it will demagnetize the cards”-not true. You should be able to put your room key in your wallet. Then we were told that the person probably didn’t put the dates in correctly-whatever.
The elevator in the lobby stopped working several times. The elevator we used was in the back of the hotel and it was absolutely disgusting. Pictures of this elevator are attached because I honestly don’t know how to describe in words how disgusting it was.
In lieu of all of our troubles I requested a late check out comped by the hotel. It was approved but I just had a feeling that it would not be communicated because nothing here is. The next day I went down to the lobby to check that we had the correct check out time. Surprise! We didn’t. We were told that a late check out would be $75. Once again my friend and I had to fight for something that was already approved the day before. We were made to feel like we made it up. Eventually we were able to get our check out covered-but again we had to fight for it.
Some of these things I could get over if the staff had tried to be more accommodating and professional. Unfortunately this was not the case. This hotel was not the most expensive-but also far from cheap and not a “steal”. Honestly I should’ve asked for a credit. Upon checking out I just wanted bathe in Lysol.
PROS:
1) Location was great, on a quiet part of the French quarter, and only a short walk bars, restaurants and anything you want to do in the French quarter
2) Outdoor courtyard area was beautiful and very comfortable. Get sun beside the pool or stretch out in one of the outdoor day beds. So nice.
CONS:
1) Wifi and TV did not work. We were told repeatedly to keep trying and put in the password. We told them it was not working. They told us to keep trying that it will work. Later we found out it was a known issue, but they failed to disclose to us upon checking in. We reported the TV not working , they told us they would send engineering up. Waiting 90 minutes - nobody came. Next day they told us nobody would have come because it was a known issue that wifi and tvs don't work if they book near capacity.
2) Room in poor condition. Moldy shower, worn down/ discolored ceiling tiles. Brown drips on bathroom door. Right side of our curtains had been cut with scissors and we could not close fully. Stains on curtains. Stain on comforter. Baseboards dirty / in disrepair.
3) Elevator had a bad odor and was visibly dirty.
4) Staff does not communicate with each other well, and treats guests poorly. We witnessed staff treating other guests poorly when they were reporting issues similar to ours. We asked to speak to a manager and we're told no managers were in. We asked for a late checkout and for it to be comped at least since we had such a poor experience. Staff member arranged this for us. The next morning we checked with front desk and we're told it would be $75. She gaslit us, poor attitude tried to blame the issues on us as if we didn't report it. We did report issues. She asked for name of who we reported to. Note for any of you - log names and times of everything if you have issues. After a few minutes wait they did approve our late checkout and comped it but it was a struggle.
5) Gym equipment not working / had out of order signs
6) They deactivated our key cards in error, then tried to blame on my friend and I that we deactivated it ourselves by having too close to another credit card. (Was not true!)
7) Thermostat worked sometimes but not others.
8) Lastly, no wash clothes so I had to wash myself with a hand towel
9) Hole in bathroom with light bulb in it was missing a cover maybe? Unsure but gnats kept flying out of it
Whoever owns this hotel has some work to do with the rooms, amenities and staff. Will not stay here again.
Please…… do not stay here!
Furthermore, the level of noise at Maison Dupuy was intolerable. Whether it was the incessant clamor from neighboring rooms or the disruptive sounds echoing through the poorly insulated walls, our attempts at rest were futile. The lack of soundproofing turned what should have been a peaceful night's sleep into an exhausting ordeal.
Adding insult to injury, the safety of guests was compromised by a glaring security flaw—the door to the shared balcony failed to lock properly. This oversight not only jeopardized our personal security but also left us feeling vulnerable and uneasy throughout our stay. It's alarming that such a basic security measure was overlooked, turning what should have been a relaxing retreat into a source of anxiety.
In summary, Maison Dupuy Hotel fell far short of expectations, resembling more of a "roach motel" than a reputable accommodation. From the offensive odor and hygiene issues to the persistent noise disturbance and security concerns, our experience was marred by a series of disappointments. We advise potential guests to steer clear of this establishment unless they are willing to sacrifice comfort, cleanliness, and safety for the sake of convenience.
