BETA MERCURIOS
Lalibela's second-largest church features beautiful frescoes of the Twelve Apostles dominated by three figures.
Lalibela's second-largest church, this partly collapsed complex, whose façade has now been restored, is far from being an original sanctuary. For some, irons found here could suggest that the site was used as a prison or court of justice. Its late conversion has left behind some fine 15th-century frescoes. On one pillar, we can see the twelve apostles dominated by three figures, the Magi or, according to local tradition, King Lalibela surrounded by Yemrehanna Kristos and Nakuto Lab, other great rulers of the Zagoué dynasty.
