Semi-monolithic religious sanctuary with beautiful frescoes and interesting treasures, 1h30 from Bilbila Giorgis.
It is located 1h30 west of Bilbila Giorgis and is rarely visited. Attributed to King Kaleb, who reigned in the 6th century according to local legend, the religious sanctuary is semi-monolithic, attached to the rock by its apse and surrounded by a moat on three sides. The church contains some fine frescoes, to be compared with those in the Genet Mariam church, as well as interesting treasures that the priest will be happy to show you. The façade is adorned with large ogival arches. Note the cupola and the beautifully carved wooden entrance door.
