Hypogeum church with three naves topped by domes and a natural terrace offering a majestic panorama.
14 km from Abbi-Addi on the Menji trail, the facade of this hypogeum church (rebuilt after a collapse) is perched halfway up the pink sandstone wall of a gigantic amba (Ethiopian plateau). After a few minutes' easy ascent, the sanctuary is reached via a tunnel cut into the rock. The basilica comprises three naves surmounted by domes and supported by fourteen cruciform pillars, decorated with paintings and bas-reliefs. A majestic panorama opens up from the small natural terrace in front of the church.
