DAWIT BUILDINGS (1716-1721)
Among the buildings constructed by Dawit III when he acceded to the throne are the singing house and the lion's cage.
Dawit III, one of Iyassou's sons, acceded to the throne after a succession of four rulers, his brothers or uncles. His reign left its mark on the "House of Song", a long building where choirs performed during festivals. We also owe him the "lion cage", still visible near the present-day entrance: the king of animals remained the emblem of the Ethiopian dynasty until the reign of Haile Selassie, who had his wild animals follow him on his travels.
