Got the Big Mama's Seafood Gumbo Deluxe for $38. The gumbo size was very generous and I had to box up half the leftovers. There were a lot of shrimps at the bottom and 2 Dungeness crab legs. Loved the taste of the gumbo.
Personally, I'd want a little more variety. A little smaller gumbo and something on the side.
Service was impeccable. I was seated immediately and the team attended to all my requests promptly.
Edit:
Came back later the same week and got the fried seafood special. The fried catfish was soooo good. The best thing I've had at Brenda's yet. Watermelon sweet tea is also pretty great.
Also, props on the beignets. You're about halfway there. You need the hole in the middle. But it is incredibly difficult unless there's one person dedicating themselves to the beignet dough. So I can't blame you for that.
The restaurant is in a neighborhood with a lot of unhoused, so the location might set you off if you are coming in from out of town and aren't used to such a location (we drove from a nearby town and this was a surprise).
On the brighter side the staff was very friendly and the store ambience was good.
We arrived with a party of 5. No wait. Seated immediately. Our server did amazing with service. The food arrived ???? and it was beautiful to look at. It's hard to eat, but we did it, and honestly, I am glad I did because the food did not have to be SO AMAZINGLY GOOD. I may fly back just for the food!
Edit: came back a second time! Tried the crawfish beignets, the chicken and andouille gumbo, fried chicken. Crawfish beignets had a great flavor, very strongly of seafood (in a good way), but the texture of the dough did not impress me as much as the beignets last time. Gumbo was very good and they are very generous on the shrimp and sausage! Fried chicken is stellar!!! So well fried, well seasoned, and comes with delicious homemade sauces that add a great tangy sweet flavor to go with the chicken. Would recommend!
