Horrible service. Cash only. The place doesn't visibly advertise its cash-only policy, probably because it skirts legality. Yet, they strictly enforce this rule, especially with Asian customers.

Generally disappointing. The Taiwanese Gua Bao are not authentic and if they are meant to be some kind of fusion style, the sweet thousand island dressing taints everything it touches. As others have noted, the XLB are definitely frozen and the skin is tough and not delicate. Food generally salty. Service, while not bad, doesnt have anything that makes stand out or hospitable. The little cat roving around the dining room was the only thing charming, but also very questionable.

Good food, but it was pretty oily. I may not be qualified to judge this, but it was my take away. A large amount of dishes to choose from.
Cash only, come prepared.

Cheap food. Staff were nice and helpful, but unfortunately the food was not good. This is not the New Dumpling King that was there 10 years ago. The xiao long bao was watery inside and the green onion pancake had almost no green onion. The dried pork bun felt like it had a meatball inside

Не решился здесь кушать, как по мне антисанитария????

Great homey neighborhood spot. Food all comes out fast and hot. Soup dumplings and dry fried chicken are excellent.

the food taste below average and definitely not worth the price. Besides, the staff member in the restaurant is pretty rude to us and not very friendly at all. Definitely don’t would never come to this restaurant again

So tasty! Everyone was really nice and we enjoyed our meal. Service was fast

Dumplings were fine, but the guy who took us to the table and waited on us started clipping his fingernails right in the front, in very clear earshot of our table. Would be very concerned about the cleanliness of a place where that is accepted.

Saturday 11/25/23 Lunch at Shanghai House in San Francisco with my cousin, niece, and nephew. Delicious Shanghai foods; pand fried dumplings, dry chicken wings, satay beef clay pot, and shedded beef & Napa.

Enjoyed hot and spicy soup, garlic chicken, green beans and prawns. Owner isn’t socially outgoing but food was good.

Very comfortable, no-nonsense little eatery!
Nice variety of items on menu; many different kinds of dumplings - all delicious! The braised string beans were so fresh & tasty! The salt & pepper chicken wings were so flavorful and crispy, yet tender inside!
The service was friendly and efficient... an overall pleasant experience!
We're definitely going back to try other menu items!

Steamed dumplings were not freshly made(most likely frozen).
Pan fried buns were just steamed buns with a fried bottom. Dan Dan noodles were way off. Our utility plates were tiny (like used for espresso), I asked for a dipping sauce dish , and they provided the plastic disposable condiment takeout container.

Stopped by for the ShengJian Bao with my girlfriend. Owner wasn’t the friendliest at first but definitely warms up to you(maybe because i shared that i lived in Shanghai for a while).

Overall food was authentic and delicious, has two menus, one more authentic and another cater to American customers. You will definitely find what you are looking for here.

Located in a busy street with lots of restaurant options, not the most vibrant and good looking one but you will get your money worth for the food.

Thanks!

It's pretty small and jank inside by American restaurant standards but seems normal for a random Chinese restaurant. We ordered food and it came out quickly. Their cong you bing is pretty weird (see picture). Their Xiao long bao is pretty soupy. Their other dishes are nice size and flavorful. There was a small very very very cute pet cat wandering around.

From what I read in these reviews it seems they are offering too many things in their menu instead of focusing on the fresh foods they can offer.
That chicken was freezer burned. I couldn’t find myself finishing my food in fears I would get sick.

There’s not much to say. They’re not very friendly and the food tasted burnt it was not good at all.

The lady owner is very friendly and hard working. All the baos and wontons are homemade handmade, if you want to try authentic Chinese food, with a affordable price, this is the price. Chicken wings are quite big than all the other places I been to, even some famous lined up restaurant is no better than here. Just look at the pictures, this is a MUST TRY PLACE!

Dim Sum and chicken not good. Server in different, no personality.

Had all vegetarian dishes - veg dumplings, green onion pancake, string beans, mapo tofu. All very tasty, good portions, esp loved the dumplings. Very reasonably priced, too. Would have liked larger plates to eat from.

Dimsum across the street is better, better prices and nicer owner.

If you don't mind bad service this is the place to go. The lady ignored me and walked away for over 5 mins. No menu given until I had to ask.

Had a great meal tonight. Our favorites of Xiao Long Bao, clay pot rice, dried fried chicken wings and Shanghai Meatballs were delicious! Love the crispy edges of the rice and they have the best XL bao in town.

Very good Xiao Long Bao (steamed pork dumplings).

Shanghai House has amazing food that I actually think is better than Shanghai Dumpling King just a few blocks away. However, the service here is poor and slow. Be prepared to wait a while for your food unless you are the only one in there. The chicken wings here are incredible.

Average home style food. Some unusual items you won't find at other restaurants.
