A magnificent gastronomic stopover in Vietnam at this two-storey restaurant with outdoor patio. Dine on the first floor, in the large, tropical dining room, then head upstairs for a cocktail at the bar, where you can listen to guest jazz players on certain evenings. On the menu, a fine selection of dishes blending Vietnamese and French inspirations. Specialties include swordfish stew with green bananas and rack of lamb with curry. A real delight. On the other hand, the bill is rather salty.

Long time San Francisco institution continues to impress. It's probably been 20 years since I visited Le Colonial. That kind of longevity in the competitive SF food scene is noteworthy alone. We tried a variety of apps and entrees such as the sea bass and the green fried prawns. I must say that it was all very good. The entrees and drinks were expensive but not more than one would expect in a high-end SF restaurants. $18 for a mai tai? Luckily it was good. The room has a comfortable Vietnamese/French theme. The service was getting a bit lax as we dined later in the evening. I had good memories from past visits and this recent visit reenforced the positive impression. We would return.

I wish I could give more stars. Beautiful restaurant. Perhaps the food is better for less-Asian acute palates. The staff and service are excellent (Mariner great help and very friendly). But I was disappointed in the freshness of the banana leaf salad the lack of flavor in the sea bass.

Food tastes decent, but costs way too much for what you get in quantity and quality, especially given the number of great options in the bay
