This new California-style seafood restaurant in Pacific Heights is delicious, fun and affordable.

This new California-style seafood restaurant is located in Pacific Heights. Specialties include oysters, crabs and mussels to take away or eat in, crispy sandwiches (bay shrimp and avocado, crabmeat rolls). The fish tacos with choice of black beans and pico de gallo are delicious, as is the San Franciscan Cioppino with mussels, clams, crab, cod, shrimp and scallops.) Everything is very hearty, so don't bite off more than you can chew. The dining room is pleasant and bright, and prices are reasonable.

I've eaten here twice - the first time was during a not-too-busy Sunday afternoon last August 2023, where I ordered their Cioppino. The second time was today (April 2024), when I availed their 15th anniversary $15 lobster rolls. The bread used for the lobster roll was amazing - buttered and toasted, with all of the good flavor. Both the chilled and hot lobster rolls were good, though I liked the chilled one better due to the added tang. The lobster itself was good, though lacking a bit of flavor; I would've wanted a bit more of a kick in it. The Cioppino I had in the past had a really tasty sauce and really good bread, and the seafood was fresh, though I would've liked a bit more flavor as well. As for their $1.25 oysters, these were awesome together with the red horseradish sauce. I also really liked their clam chowder, which hit the right spot before a big meal. Overall this is a good place to eat seafood. 4.5 out of 5.

I go to Woodhouse on Fillmore 4-5x a year -- usually for lunch. Yesterday on a Saturday I wanted to take my kid there for her birthday. Their website and Google Maps say they're open till 10pm on Tue, Fri and Sat. We got there around 8:30 and they're telling us they're closing at 9pm and not seating any more tables. At least, a couple tables look like they've just been seated. I tell them their website says different hours. The host says he's new and he apologizes and gives me an offer to speak to his manager. Then he says they had a lobster roll event and all the lobster rolls are sold out, so that's why they're not seating any more tables. I tell them that I'm not planning on ordering lobster rolls and all they can do is apologize and look blank. All of them look like they're itching to close up their shift and go to a party. I don't blame them, but it's Saturday (1 of the 2 busiest dining nights of the week) and it's a night they're supposed to be open till 10. This group of staffers wasn't at all like the usual great, attentive staff I've encountered on my visits before. I'll still go to Woodhouse again, but definitely have trust issues now. ;-). 4 stars for their typical experience across food, service, atmosphere, 1 star for the dinner failure yesterday.

It's a descent place, nothing special. Bring kids, but not a date kind of place.
