Service:
We arrived around shortly after midnight and there was someone there to let us in and immediately get us checked in. He was very friendly and gave us advice on where to go and the areas to avoid.
Location:
The location was more than ideal for us as a couple being on vacation and not renting a car. There was target that is two minutes from the hotel and a trader joes right next door. Starbucks in a very close proximity too. There is multiple bus stops and a metro station less than three minutes away which was very convenient as that was our modes of transportation.
Room:
We had the deluxe full room. It was very small but that is typical in a big city. There was no AC but the ceiling fan did wonders and we slept with the windows open for all five nights we stayed. The one thing I will say which was very disappointing was no mini fridge in the room or access to a microwave. The water station was located in the basement which was very inconvenient, hot and had lots of flies down there. Also there is only ice machines located on the second and fifth floors which was also really annoying sometimes. There is only one hotel in the elevator but we did not run into any problems with it taking forever or getting backed up. We hardly ran into people on the elevator. We were on the 6th floor so most times we would try to take the stairs since we are on the younger side. This room definitely gets the job done if you're trying to find a convenient and cheaper hotel for a vacation on a budget. We didn't spend too much time here as we often were out exploring, leaving early and coming back late but the time we spent here was nice and we ran into no issues.
*The front door is also locked and the only people who are allowed access is guest which is very reassuring as there is lots of homeless people sleeping outside on the streets right outside the hotel. Being a young women it made me feel safe knowing not anyone can get in there.
GM Kevin Bazant creates an environment of excellence for guests AND staff. Live the coffee/tea service providing “community” each morning.
Doorman Joe & Lito-“chief cook & bottle washer” perform a variety of services to delight guests: new & returning! Virginia & Allen, front desk hosts strive to please ALL questions & requests. Rubeena is in the early bird housekeeping shift and Kathleen freshened my room daily. Immaculate property! I love Mosser!
Room: Okay guys, the rooms are small. Why? It is a very old building, rooms were not built as big in the past as they are now. It reminded me of when I stayed at a B&B in downtown London and I've definitely stayed in smaller when I visited Tokyo. Adjust your expectations for this hotel in terms of size, it is much more akin to European sizes.
The room worked well for me, I had an ensuite (Deluxe Full) on floor 7 facing ... a wall. Which is fine. You definitely want to bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to noise, the walls are NOT thick. There was a window above my door but there were blinds and no light came in. The blinds work just fine.
My biggest complaint with the room is the lack of small coffee maker or tea kettle. This would vastly improve the room. Having free coffee in the morning in the lobby is not really an amenity when competition has it right in the guest rooms. But, overall the hotel is clean and so was my room when I checked in.
I stayed for 3 nights (just me) and it worked for my needs. Though, I forget if it was policy but the whole time my room wasn't serviced/cleaned.
Be prepared to be warm. It's very stuffy in the hallways and room. There is a fan but no A/C. This is okay for winter but I wouldn't stay during summer.
Staff: They are polite but not very clear when explaining policies, particularly for early check in/late check out. When I sent an email regarding concerns about reviews, they did not address it.
Location: Can't be beat if you're going to the convention center. The lobby doors are by key access only (there is a buzzer you can notify staff for when you arrive) and that really helped to feel safe.
Policies: So, what they DON'T advertise on their website is that when you check in, you pay a $75 deposit when you check in. No card for incidentals, just a full fee of $75. They do refund this once you check out, mine was refunded the day after I checked out.
I read some comments on here about the smell of cigarette smoke. This got me nervous. Well, they make it very clear that this is a non-smoking hotel and anyone smoking pays $200 (or $250) if found ignoring the policy. So if you smell smoke, contact the front desk so they can handle it.
There is an extra fee to check in early, I believe $25? Something like that. If you want to check out late, it depends how full they are. If they can accommodate it, the first hour after check out is free but then another hour was .. about $12? That's as late as I stayed so more fees if you stay later.
They do hold your luggage after check out if you need.
I think it would be good to have these extra fees listed on the website so guests can properly budget.
Lobby: I had a late flight and I ended up getting sick during my trip. I was planning on doing some sightseeing before my flight but I needed to rest. Since I already checked out, they let me hang out and rest on the couch for a few hours (2-4). When I went, it was beautifully decorated for the winter holidays. There is only 1 elevator (old building) but it wasn't terribly slow, not fast, but decent.
For Plus Size People: I would caution you about booking this hotel. In my experience, it would be hard to move around the room and the shower is VERY small. I'm plus size myself but not terribly wide so I was able to shower by sticking to the back corner but I could see it being impossible for individuals that need more room on either side in the shower (it's really a small square). This is adequate but not for larger plus size individuals.
Overall: I would not call this a 3-star hotel simply because it lacks in amenities that other 3 stars have. The price reflects lower than 3 star due to those lack of amenities and smaller rooms. The location (and price) truly cannot be beat for attending conventions, though. I would recommend this hotel to friends but would make sure they have correct expectations.
Giving motel / 1 star despite location
would not trust
- Random dude sleeping on couch in Hotel lobby. (not houseless, just random dude)
- Entire street blocked off, no warning on phone that entrance inaccessible for several blocks? Could have easily warned guests or offered help w bags
- No parking. And when asked desk clerk where to park at night, they just shrugged and said idk
- Just Bad service. Man at Front desk couldn’t answer any Qs, or maybe didn’t want to. Just shrugged when asked. Low key just did not want to be there at all, completely unconcerned unhelpful.
Interior is worn down
