The Casa Loma hotel is a great hotel to stay at if you're on a budget I stayed in a Twin Deluxe room for 1 week and cost me 643 dollars that was early April they do have cheaper rooms without a bathroom if you're on a really tight budget, also on arrival you will be charged a 60 dollar deposit per room,my room was nicely kept and was clean although the rooms are basic hence it's a budget hotel, nicely located as well not far from Alamo Square and Haight Street where you can find a variety of places to eat and drink in,turn left when leaving the hotel and Haight street is about a 15 minute walk one place to drink in was the Molotov bar where beer on draft is 7 dollars and bottled beer 5 or 6 dollars and from 3pm to 7pm is happy hour where its 1 dollar of the usual price, looks a bit dingy inside but it's ok for a few drinks, actually quite nice, and one other thing is they ONLY EXEPT CASH no cards but there's a cash machine on the premises,so if you're looking for a hotel at a reasonable price I'd choose the Casa Loma my second stay here, staff are friendly and helpful too, just one other thing to mention is the hotel does not have a lift so if you can't do stairs it won't be for you????.

You definitely get what you pay for. Don't spend 50$ on a hotel if you don't want bugs, possibly dirty sheets, and to live in fear.

Oh my gosh, please do not let anyone else stay here and stay away!! This place deserves to go back to the dinosaur age.
It started out ok, old and no elevator when I dropped my luggage off with the guy. I came back in the evening, the hostess was extremely rude and muttering offensive words under her breath. Mega disgruntled, she tried to first put me in a lower priced room than I paid for which had no working lights or bathroom.
The whole evening was really loud and I heard strange noises near the walls, I felt scared and very unsafe. No joke, my suitcase was blocking the door as much as possible as I heard loud banging sounds outside. I literally hot tailed it as quick as I could to an open coffee house at 5am the next morning to escape the place.

An excellent choice for anyone visiting San Francisco who wants to keep their budget under control. The price is very fair, the staff are very helpful - and agreed to hold onto my suitcase for several hours after checkout - and the location is absolutely fantastic, within walking distance of the Painted Ladies, some great diners, and good public transport links to key sightseeing locations.

The rooms are small, with no en-suite bathroom (and I couldn't find any controls for the automated aircon) but they have all the essentials, and I wasn't spending much time in my room anyway. It's San Francisco, you should be out and about! I'll definitely book here again if I return.

Clean room with a wonderful view and an excellent central location.

Stains and smells and noise I could stand, but if you go prepaid, they'll charge you a 50 dollar deposit you'll never get back.

I tried reserving a room online, but they use a sketchy website called ResOnTheWeb, which doesn't work properly and just gives you an error after you've entered all your information. Moments later, I started getting scam texts on the number I used for the reservation. Be careful who you book from.

I have to admit, I was skeptical, given the mixed reviews of this place, but my partner and I were very pleasantly surprised! We obviously did not expect it to be as nice as it actually was.

It seems as though they have recently updated a lot of the fixtures/bathrooms/bedrooms, which was quite nice. It was very clean, which is mostly all we cared about.

The staff was very warm and welcoming! Also a plus in our opinion. I’m not sure why folks are so shocked by the deposit—it’s really not as expensive as most places and as long as you don’t trash the room, you’ll get it back…

The location is perfect—it’s pretty central to most neighborhoods, and you can easily get around with public transit.

The one thing I will say about the room we had is that it was pretty hot in there. We kept the window open and asked for a small fan to get some air circulating in there. Overall, it was fine with the fan, which they were more than willing to give to us.

I’m also unsure of why folks thought this place was noisy… it was very quiet throughout our stay. It may be because we had a more centralized room, and not one that had a window out to the street. If you’re really sensitive to noise, maybe ask for a central room instead.

Affordable. Clean. Modern. Accommodating. Perfect for us, and we will definitely stay again!

edit: dropped the score from 5 stars due to unsavoury individuals roaming the corridors, smoking, drinking, behaving very noisily, not respecting other guests and bringing in dangerous looking dogs, hotel staff not responding. Our last night felt like being in a criminal den squat.
Surprised to see some very low score comments - if you pay 50 bucks for the night in the best neighborhood of San Francisco it will not have the same quality as 300pn Marriott. But back to the subject - super clean, smallish rooms, outside great hot showers, free espresso machine coffees in the morning, walkable, safe area. 2 minutes walk to the famous Painted Ladies, 1 minute walk to convenience shop, 1 minute walk to launderette, 10 minutes walk to buzzing bars and restaurants. Walls are admittedly thin, so wear earplugs. And spend the hundreds of dollars that you just saved on accommodation on sth fun ;)

Didn't have high hopes for this hotel due to the price being significantly lower then others in the area. However I was plesently suprised.
Room was good size and always quiet, had a microwave, sink, wardrobe, phone, fridge, hairdryer, TV, plug sockets and 10w USB sockets next to the bed (which was perfect as I left my charger at the airport), reception was helpful and check-in was a breeze, also daily maid service. Although bed seemed quite firm when I first sat on it I actually had a really good night's sleep each night, pillows are perfect aswell. In my whole stay I didn't see anyone use the showers or toilets and they were always spotless.
Location was great aswell, round the corner from the painted ladies. Your more less in the middle of everything although it is a bit of a walk. Huge Safe way supermarket and mcdonalds up the road 10min walk. There are some hills however wasn't as bad as I expected.

There a $50 deposit which was a bit of a shock coming from the UK however I think this is more then reasonable in the US.

Cons: the room does need some TLC and there were a few stains on the bedding however it still looked and smelt washed and room was overall clean. Microwave in room however never used it as there is no cutlery. There is a coffee machine in the reception and it's made some of the nicest coffees I've ever had but you can only use it in the morning then it gets turned off which is a shame. Room was very hot aswell so window open the whole stay. Also couldn't get lamps to work next to bed.

Need a place to crash while sightseeing in San Francisco and don’t feel like spending hundreds of unnecessary dollars? This place is a great option. You can’t beat the neighborhood although the rooms are a little small but everything is very clean. Coffee machine is another nice touch.

At the first time we checked in the room, we were really shocked because of the blanket. I can’t believe they didn’t clean it at all. It is really nasty. I almost throw up. They changed it. But they never say sorry. But the location is perfect. And good price.

The best hotel in the area (Alamo Square/Nopa/Hayes Valley) in this price range. Updated rooms (rare and challenging in these Victorian neighborhoods), excellent and friendly staff, great location.

Great place to stay if you are a lone traveler or a couple. Room was clean and cozy. Furniture was a little worn, but nothing to complain. I had a room with personal bathroom. Personel was great. The location is perfect and easy to get to in public transportation. If you are on a budget this little hotel is perfect!

Nice budget hotel with rooms for an affordable price. Good walking distance to and from Muni and bus stops, small markets, restaurants, and music venues like the Fillmore nearby.

Beautiful rooms, helpful staff. Our room did not have a private bathroom but the shared bathroom is clean. The area is quiet and there are also many restaurants within 2 blocks.
