A shopping session in San Francisco will cost you more or less the same as in France, especially since the euro is at parity with the dollar. Don't forget that in the U.S., local taxes are not included in the listed price. In San Francisco, it is 8.875% on clothing.

Sales

In the U.S., stores offer discounts all year round, especially on certain holidays. Not-to-be-missed sales include President's Day Sale (the weekend of February 22), Memorial Day Weekend Sale (the weekend before the last Monday in the month), July 4th Summer Sale (the week before July 4), Labor Day Weekend Sale (the weekend before the first Monday in September). But Black Friday is undoubtedly where you'll find the best deals. The day after Thanksgiving, all stores offer crazy discounts, including luxury brands. Clothing, high-tech, furniture, home decor - the discounts spare nothing and no one, and can go up to 80%. The Black Friday sales last all weekend long, and end with Cyber Monday, which allows you to do business on the Internet. This event is often criticized for encouraging over-consumption. Finally, if you pass a store with the word "Clearance" displayed in large letters, rush inside! The store is closing or moving and clearing out its stock.

What's very local

Take advantage of your stay in San Francisco to store in stores that don't yet exist here, or only in Paris. The stores are huge and the choice is enormous.

Tourist traps

Keep a close eye on the quality of the knick-knacks on offer in Chinatown stalls. Don't go for the cheap, low-quality items. That said, thick sweatshirts are definitely cheaper and hold up well.
