In 1987, with the Reagan administration refusing to address the problem, 3,400 San Francisco residents took to the streets to raise public awareness of AIDS, the new disease that was wreaking havoc in the gay community. Every year since then, the people of San Francisco have continued to march and raise funds for medical research and associations supporting patients with the virus. To date, this solidarity movement has raised over 90 million dollars.
