Founded in 1974 by Harvey Milk, the Castro Street Fair celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of San Francisco's LGBTQ+ community. Hundreds of local artists, vendors and artisans take up residence at and around the intersection of Market and Castro Streets. Concerts take place on the various stages set up for the occasion, which are also open to people who want to dance. Much softer than its rival, the Folsom Street Fair, it has a good-natured, family atmosphere. Moreover, the profits are donated to charity.
