The first San Francisco Lesbian March took place in June 1993, to develop lesbian activism as opposed to the gay movement, which was then seen as a predominantly male movement. The Dyke March brings together members of San Francisco's lesbian community, so men are rarely tolerated in the parade. Less formal than the LGBT Parade on the following day, the Dyke March ends in the Castro district, where the Pink Saturday Party takes place, a giant party set to house music.
